From academia to animal welfare: How Assam’s Prapti Foundation emerged as a force against dog trafficking and cruelty

The Prapti Foundation, led by Sarupathar College principal Prapti Thakur, has emerged as a prominent grassroots animal welfare organisation in Assam. Based in Golaghat district, it has rescued and supported more than 1,500 animals through medical care, rehabilitation, feeding drives and awareness campaigns. Its shelter, Sarameya Kutir in Rangajan, has rehabilitated 163 rescued dogs. The foundation also works closely with authorities to combat animal cruelty and illegal dog trafficking across the region.
